New Faces at the Department of Visual Communication Design

Dr. Emre Sünter

Emre Sünter is a graduate of the philosophy department at Galatasaray University. He holds a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Paris Nanterre, having received the prestigious excellence grant from the French government. In 2021, he completed his Ph.D. in Communication Studies at the University of Montreal, with his thesis titled “For an Ecology of Microbe-Artworks: Thinking in between Art and Science.” This work earned him a place on the Chancellor’s Honor List at the university. Sünter’s scholarly work has been published in prestigious journals such as NanoEthicsTheory, Culture & Society, and Pulse: The Journal of Science and Culture. Sünter has translated Deleuze and Guattari’s seminal book “Mille plateaux,” which will soon be published by Norgunk Publishing House. His research interests encompass a wide range of topics, including the digitalization of society, new media, aesthetic theory, design and ethics, ecology, and the philosophy of science and technology. Through his multifaceted investigations, Sünter aims to bridge the gaps between disciplines and advance our understanding of the complex relationships between technology, culture, and the environment.

Dr. Zeynep Özüm Ak

Zeynep Özüm Ak started her bachelor’s degree at Yıldız Technical University, Communication Design in 2008. After graduation, she continued her education at ESAD Matosinhos Art and Design University (Escola Superior de Arte e Design Matosinhos, Porto/Portugal) Communication Design Master Program in 2014. Continuing her doctorate at Aveiro University Design Program between 2018-2019, the designer worked as a part-time lecturer at Yıldız Technical University Communication Design Department in 2023. She attended the International Council of Design (Ico-D) meetings held in Porto in 2019 as a panel speaker representing the Turkish Graphic Designers Association (GMK). Continuing to produce mainly in culture and art projects since 2014, the designer is the founding partner of Beautiful Problems Design Studio and a member of GMK.
